Butterfly Garden

ACE OF CLUBS 4-H SERVICE PROJECT
Butterfly Garden
at Kinetic Pocket Park in Downtown Granville

Ace of Clubs 4-H renovated a small, but highly visible area of the village of Granville's historic downtown into a vibrant butterfly garden and "Pollinator Pocket Park." The flower beds were very overgrown and filled with weeds when a large mural and public art installation featuring butterflies was installed in June 2022. Noting there were no butterfly host plants and very little native vegetation in this pocket park, Ace of Clubs 4-H worked with the Village of Granville and Kinetic by Windstream to receive permission to transform the space. 4-H members removed weeds and most of the overgrown plants and planted a variety of native Ohio flowers and shrubs that support the endangered Monarch and other species of butterflies, insects & pollinators.  The renovated garden is a model for other properties along Broadway to refresh their landscaping with native plants and form part of a Pollinator Pathway along Broadway.

This project was funded with generous support from Kinetic by Windstream and Wild Ones-Columbus. Additional support provided by: Albyn's, Scioto Gardens, Ohio Native Concepts, Village of Granville, Songbird Transitions, Ryan McGuire & Timber Run Gardens
